Joanna DeHaven Underwood, Board of Advisors
Joanna D. Underwood is Founder and President of INFORM, Inc., a national environmental research organization located in New York City. In 1998 and again in 2000, she was chosen by The Earth Times as one of the 100 most influential voices in the Global Sustainability Movement.
Ms. Underwood founded INFORM in 1974 to identify practical solutions to some of this country's most complex environmental problems. NFORM's goal is to identify innovations that will mean real progress toward sustainable ways of living. INFORM's groundbreaking research into the chemical industry earned the organization one of the most prestigious awards presented by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its leading role in promoting pollution prevention. INFORM's research has also played key roles in the creation and passage of the EPA's Toxics Release Inventory in 1986 and the Federal Pollution Prevention Act of 1990.
Ms.Underwood is on the Advisory Board of the Center for Global Environment of the Harvard Medical School and a member of the editorial board of Greenwire. She has served on the Boards of the Rocky Mountain Institute, the Keystone Center, the New York State Energy and Research Development Authority, and on the Dow Chemical Company's Environmental Advisory Board.
A graduate of Bryn Mawr College, she has taught courses at New York and Adelphi universities and has lectured widely. In 1999, she received an honorary Doctorate of Science degree from Wheaton College. She is listed in Who's Who in America and Who's Who of American Women. Ms. Underwood brings almost 30 years experience in non-profit management and development to Learning for Living's Board of Advisors. She lives in New York City with her husband, Saul Lambert.
