Deborah Murphy, Assistant to the Executive Director
Compassionate and energetic. Organized and creative. These are just a few of the adjectives that describe Deborah Murphy, Learning for Living’s new Assistant to the Director and Office Manager.
Deborah’s direction in life has always been guided by her passion for worthy causes. Prior to joining Learning for Living, Deborah served as the Executive Director of the Windstar Foundation in Old Snowmass, Colorado. Founded by folk singer, John Denver, the Windstar Foundation, is a non-profit organization which has environmental education as its mission.
During her nine years with Windstar, Deborah designed annual science symposiums with globally recognized speakers such as Dr. Jane Goodall, Amory Lovins and Bill Nye. As Windstar’s Communication Director, she expanded the quarterly newsletter and designed the Windstar website. As Program Manager, Deborah created an instructional curriculum for EARTHcamp, an environmental program held in several cities throughout the United States and Israel, trained its volunteer facilitators, and launched an on-line middle and high school science curriculum.
Before joining Windstar, Deborah worked as the Assistant Director of Religious Education at St. Anthony on the Lake Church in Wisconsin and volunteered for HawkQuest, a wildlife education group in Parker, Colorado. She holds a B.S. in Anthropology from the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
Deborah currently lives in Conifer, Colorado where she enjoys spending time with her four sons: Shawn, Timothy, DJ, and Kelly, and their pets, Serenity and Harpo.
